We all have dreams, but we wait around for something to magically happen to us.
Our daily life, without a doubt, distracts us from what we truly want out of life. I’m guilty of being one of those people who unconsciously lets life takeover sometimes. It’s easy to push your dreams to the side while you’re taking care of the now in your life.
But what separates those who want to achieve their dreams and those that do is action. It’s that simple.
Think about your ultimate dream or goal as a destination.. and the means to achieve that dream is your path to get there. In order to get to your destination you have to take the steps to get there. And if not, how are going to get there one day?
Our dreams can be so big and unique, that it seems so faraway from us. The only way our dreams will seem realistic is if we can visually or mentally see how we’re gonna get there.
One of my biggest dreams is to open up my own non-profit wildlife sanctuary one day. It started as just an idea and then I couldn’t stop thinking about my future self working at such a beautiful place. So, I started to wonder what is the framework for starting a non-profit?
I found out that every non-profit is required to have a board, a mission statement, and income streams until you’re eligible for grants – things I had no clue about before. When I first found these things out, I felt a little overwhelmed and questioned my dream for a moment. But once all the new information settled, I started to feel the confidence I would need to start my non-profit.
If your dream is anything similar to mine – whether it’s a wildlife sanctuary, becoming an astronaut, or travelling to China, it all requires research (yeah, yeah I know that word research seems boring). But you’ll get excited once you find out your dreams are not as faraway as you made them out to be in the first place.
After doing some research, think about what actions you need to take next to start the whole process. Want to be a lawyer? So, what law school do you want to go to? What are the requirements to get in? When are you going to go?
Want to travel to China? When are you gonna go? What is your budget? What do you want to see when you’re there?
These questions should arise once you find out more about the reality of your dream. Trust me, there will be things you don’t know but that’s why now is better than later. There is almost no better feeling than knowing you could actually achieve your wildest dream.
So, today I challenge you – what do you want to experience before you die? And what are you going to do about it?
